60th Men’s Invitational Results

On Saturday, June 8th 78 amatuer golfers participated in the 60th playing of the Lookout Point Men’s Invitational. The day was a tremendous success with one of the strongest fields we have had in recent years. We had 5 past champions which highlighted the field of elite amateur players. At the end of the day it was one of Lookout Point’s own, a gentlemen who has come very close to winning on multiple occasions, who was able to finally break through.

Congratulations to Ryan Dyck, winner of the 2019 Lookout Point Men’s Invitational

KLIMCOMM_120190608-DKP_3666.jpg

Ryan made 6 birdies en route to a round of 71. Ryan has been playing some great golf as a late, qualifying for both the Ontario Men’s Amateur & the Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur. A quick start (including 4 birdies on the front) and great playing down the stretch were key’s to Ryan’s victory. Ryan made the turn at 2-under par but by the 12th hole was 1 over along with a number of other players. A birdie on the difficult 13th and again on the 15th steadied the round and while other players began to lose pace Ryan rode his solid play to a 3 shot victory over 2019 champion Garrett Atkinson. Great playing Ryan, we look forward to hosting you as our 2020 defending champion!

Saturday June 15th Member Shotgun

This Saturday, June 15th we are excited to host the Ladies Invitational. For members who have a membership category that allows for weekend play, we will be hosting a morning shotgun at 7:30 am. You can make a reservation online or by calling the Golf Shop. Hole assignments will be posted by Thursday morning in the Golf Shop.

Handicap Reporting and Emails

Over the past week we have fielded a number of questions from members who have received an automated email reminding them to post a score in the Golf Canada system. Lookout Point Country Club’s handicap policy requires all members to post scores into their Golf Canada handicap account within 72 hours of completion of their round of golf. The email that members are receiving is an automated message that is being sent by the tee time reservation program (not by any individual or committee). This email is to make you aware that you were checked in on the tee sheet at Lookout Point but have not posted a corresponding score to your handicap account within the required 72 hours. There can be a number of reasons for this, for example, you may have been checked in for 18 holes on our tee sheet but only played 9 holes. or you may have played a round that is not required to be posted based on Golf Canada’s guidelines. If either of these situations are the case, simply ignore the reminder email.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the professional staff.

CANADA DAY FESTIVITIES AND SHOTGUN

Monday, July 1st we will be hosting a full day of activites and events including a 1:30 shotgun for members & guests and a night of live music and activities capped with a fantastic fireworks display. For more information and to register for the golf shotgun please click on the following link:

Have you ever misread a putt at Lookout Point???

Look at the image below. Do the horizontal blue lines look like they bend or are at an angle? In reality, they are all 100% straight. You can’t always trust your eyes. Reading greens is no different.

4313D74200000578-0-image-a-37_1502211376414.jpg

In the Golf Shop we hear about misread putts at Lookout Point daily. Putts that seemed to defy gravity. Upslopes downhill and downslopes uphill.

If you’ve watched Golf on the PGA or LPGA Tour over the past 5 year’s you will have noticed a number of professionals using a revolutionary method of green reading called “Aim Point”. Some of these players include Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott, Justin Rose, Lydia Ko and Stacey Lewis. Aim Point was developed by Mark Sweeney (PGA Tour Coach) and is now used by over 200 touring pros, 5000 juniors, 75,000 amateurs and over 300 of the world’s top instructors. At it’s basic level the process involves:

Driving Range Turf (HELP!!!)

A couple of week’s ago we sent out an e-blast talking about the right and wrong ways to practice at the range. That e-blast can be found by CLICKING HERE. In that e-blast we instructed members to practice using a “linear” divot pattern as opposed to a “scattered” or “concentrated” divot pattern. A linear pattern removes the least amount of turf and recovers quickly helping us to ensure we have quality turf to practice off of throughout the golf season. This past weekend the following patterns were found a the Driving Range:

IMG_3270_01.jpg
IMG_3271_01.jpg

This area of the range’s turf may not recover at all this season. If you are using the range you are expected to use a linear pattern. By now, all members should be aware of proper practice procedures as outlined in the image below. If you are unsure, please speak to one of the Professional Staff and we will be happy to educate you further. Divot patterns such as the ones found this weekend will not be tolerated.

Golf Shop News, May 21st

Range Closure

Please be aware, that the Driving range will not be open on Thursday AM between the hours of 7am – 12:30pm.  There will be some heavy equipment out that morning conducting some Geo-Technical soil surveys.  The property that is beyond our current driving range could potentially be sold, and if this is the case,  Lookout Point Country Club will require some barrier netting to enclose our driving range.  These results from these surveys will give us the proper details needed to move forward with any negotiations.

In order to minimize the impact of the range closure we have moved our regular grounds maintenance to Thursday morning. As a result, we will be closing the driving range early (approximately 5:00 pm) during the evening of Wednesday, May 22nd for a clean pick of the range.

Men’s Match Play

Match Play is one of the oldest formats of competitive golf.  Golfers can employ a slightly different strategy during a match play event since the scoring is different. A Match Play game is played with the goal of winning more individual holes than the opposing player or team.

Registration is now open for the season long Men’s Singles (Gross), Singles (Net) & Doubles (Net) match play events. Qualification for these events takes place during the month of June with registration ending on June 24th. The top 16 qualifying individual/team scores will be seeded and advance to the Round of 16 matches which will take place during July. Players/Teams will arrange matches between themselves during the round windows. All the information regarding the qualification process, tees in play and costs are available on the registration pages in the member central. In addition to these season long match play events , we also have our Senior Singles (Net) Match Play Championship which is now available for registration. Both qualification as well as the Match Play rounds will be played on selected days with tee-times reserved for our competitors in advance. We will be recognizing our Senior Match Play Champion on Sunday, July 21st.
