MATCH PLAY

Match Play is one of the oldest formats of competitive golf. Golfers can employ a slightly different strategy during a match play event since the scoring is different. A Match Play game is played with the goal of winning more individual holes than the opposing player or team. On the whole, match play encourages more aggressive play, where a par or net-par is not usually good enough to win a hole. Since a very poor result for a hole is no worse than a slightly-below-average result when playing against an opponent with an average score, it often makes sense to accept the higher risk connected with aggressive tactics. However, in some circumstances, players will be especially cautious in match play. For instance, a player may choose to play more conservatively if the opponent has hit a poor tee shot or is otherwise under pressure to compensate a poor start on a particular hole, reasoning that there is a good chance to win the hole with an average result. Match Play is a game format in which the round is played with the goal of winning more individual holes than the opposing player or team.

This year we are excited to offer 4 Match Play competitions for our Men's section and 1 for our Juniors. Registration can be completed through the Events section of the Member Central Portal on www.lopcc.com

Men's Singles (Gross)

$25 Entry

Rules for 2018

1. All players must be registered by May 12th, 2018
2. If minimum registration numbers are not met then the event will be canceled
3. You may register for as many Match Play events as you like (age restrictions apply)
4. Brackets will be posted in the Locker Rooms and emailed to competitors by May 19th, 2018, this will include due dates for each match to be played

5. In the event that a match is not played by its due date, a makeup match will be scheduled by the Golf Shop for the following Saturday between 2-3pm (if match contains a 5-day member then it will be scheduled for the following Friday between 2-3pm). If both players arrive for their scheduled match it will be contested as normal. If only one player arrives they will be deemed the victor. If no players arrive then BOTH will be disqualified from the match-play competition.

6. All scorecards are required to be placed in the drop box located in the Men's Locker room following the match. These scores will be entered into Golf Genius and results will be viewable online through our Member Central portal.
7. As in previous years, if possible, the winner of last years Match Play will be given a bye in the first round.
