Message from the General Manager
Good afternoon,
The time is near, we are ramping up for the official start of the golf season as per the direction of the government. As we wait for the exact timeline describing the opening of the province, we are aware that the golf industry and LPCC we will be a part of the Phase 1 plan. We have been given clearance to start preparing for our season . With that said, we are targeting June 1st as an official date, but if we given permission to open prior to, then we are committed to doing so. We have many colleagues in the industry across the country and will have the benefit of learning what will work and what does not. The various associations that we are members of, The PGA, NGCOA, GCSA and CSCM have been lobbying on our behalf to allow us to open as soon as possible.
As mentioned in the past updates, the golf course is in great shape, and we have been taking advantage of this down time to work on a few course improvements without having to disrupt the golfers. We have already completed the leveling and re-sodding of # 8 and # 11 tee-decks
We have plans if time and weather permit to do the same to # 5 as well as the white tee decks on # 4 and # 7 before we open. The greens have been aerified, and we will not need to aerify in August allowing the members as much access as possible throughout the season.
Our plan to open will also happen in phases, and as restrictions can be lifted, we will be able to peel them back and return to as close to normal as possible. Over the next few weeks there will be some specifics about the protocols that will be in place to ensure the safety of our members and staff. You can expect to see a declaration of sorts acknowledging the fact that you are healthy and have read the guidelines that need to be followed. We are preparing some signage to follow once you are on the property and we will have a step by step guide prepared for you. There will be the need to follow these protocols very strictly with the understanding that we are expecting frequent visits from the health & liquor inspectors. By not complying with the guidelines and the member code of conduct there is the risk that we can be closed back down while social distancing restrictions are still in place.
We have received some questions from the membership about the F&B minimums. Firstly, a reminder that the F&B minimum payment schedule had already been changed to a bi-annual payment. July 31 and October 31 would be the deadlines in each period. With that said however, the Board of Directors will be discussing how we handle the first installment. We appreciate the support that has been growing around the Take-Out menus that we have created.
The availability of golf carts and cart plans has also raised some concern. I am pleased to say that we have been able to secure some extra carts for the season and they will be available once we open. At this time, we are programming Our tee-sheet for 10-minute intervals (6 per hour) and 2 of which will be for walkers only. We are currently working with our software provider to see if this set up is programmable and if so, we are confident that a golf cart will be available for those that need/want to use one on most occasions. Therefore, to start the season we will be able to offer the 30 ride cart plans which will be available for purchase once we are open. Carts will be limited to single riders, however anyone from the same household will be able to ride together. There may be the possibility to have a 2nd bag on the cart at N/C if the other player is willing to walk (this will be determined by guidelines from the govt). This will be monitored on the 1st tee and then on course by the staff that will be monitoring the pace of play on course.
At this time we are working with the tee-time software to decide whether or not a lottery system will be used for each day of the week (excluding Tuesdays/Thursdays) to ensure that all members will have a chance to access the course for some much needed mental and physical exercise. The restrictions associated with the various categories will be in effect. All full play members (Platinum, Gold, Silver & full spousal) will have a 7-day advanced booking privilege to get their names in the lottery. Lifestyle, Students, Junior members will have their 4-day advanced booking privileges to secure the times that have not been used in the lottery. Tee-times on the weekends will all be off the 1st tee. There will not be a split start due to the social distancing requirements. This will be determined well in advance of opening and will be communicated through the golf shop once the tee-sheet is open.
Once we are open, only those members that have booked a tee-time and are on the tee-sheet will be allowed to enter the parking lot. There cannot be any walk-ons as this will only congest the staging areas. We will only be able to accommodate bookings of 4 people or less. (A tee-time will not be reserved for 1 member and 3 TBA) All names must be listed on the tee-sheet. There will be no guest play allowed in the 1st phase and no times will be held without the name of the members that are playing. The lottery system will pair two-somes and singles up with available groups. There will be the ability to book the day of play, up to a certain hour of the day.
Based on some examples that we have been made aware of Our belief is that range access could be a possibility. If we are allowed to start the season with the driving range, then our hope is to provide access to those members that are playing and we will be giving everyone 15 minutes to warm up before their round (practice after the round will not be an option). The golf balls will be laid out for you at your hitting station so that no one will be touching baskets and balls. The short game area on the range will not be available but the chipping green beside the 9th hole will be available for warm up but will involve your own golf balls. This area will not be in use for anyone other than those that are on the tee-sheet. We are reviewing the option of utilizing the academy side of the range for practice and this will involve booking your 1 hr time slot to practice. The ability to just show up at the range will not be an option to start with, so once again it will be important to know and understand the guidelines that will be shared with you over the next few weeks.
With the guidelines that we are hoping to operate under, we are confident that we will also be able to accommodate the Tuesday Ladies “LLL” league play as well as the Men’s Night on Thursdays. Obviously, the ability to host the après golf portion of these days is not an option currently, but we are looking to be able to engage those members in some form of competition and camaraderie. Our on-line live scoring system will be used. More information will be provided by the golf shop. We have invested in the “Pin Caddy” which will allow the ball to hit the bottom of the cup. A handle that will be operated with your putter will lift the ball up out of the hole without the need to touch the flagstick or the cup. There will be a video provided to show how this system works from the golf shop as we get closer to our opening date. At this time, we are not sure about the ability to host any traditional member events for the first half of the season, but we are looking to create some events on various days that will involve signing up on the 1st tee.
The clubhouse, locker room, bag room, golf shop and restaurant will remain closed in phase 1. We will be unable to clean and store clubs and power caddys until Phase 2. The only exception will be the washrooms outside the golf shop. They are gender neutral and will be maintained on the hour by our facilities staff. The halfway house washrooms will also be available, and these will be maintained throughout the day to ensure that they are as clean as possible. You will be able to get some on course refreshments here also. It is recommended that each member should be equipped with their own hand sanitizer and/or disinfectant wipes. We will have hand sanitizer situated outside the washrooms. The water cooler outside the golf shop will be available, but personal water bottles will be needed. There will not be any disposable cups. On course, there will be no water stations, no rakes for the bunkers, no ball washers no garbage cans, no sand & seed on the par 3 tee-decks or benches on the various tees. Garbage will be disposed of by the member after the round at the cart drop off area.
Another exciting initiative that has been created is the new “on-line” golf shop. The golf shop will be stocked and will be ready for business but in the meantime any members looking for the latest and greatest, will be able purchase what they are looking for on-line. The orders can be picked up curbside or will be ready for pick up at the 1st tee based on your tee-time once we are playing again. You can still expect the members preferred pricing structure so we can guarantee that you will not need to shop elsewhere. Here is the link to the on-line store.

Please stay tuned over the next few weeks as we get more specific details on how the operation will look. As mentioned, we are hopeful that we will learn more about what is working and what is not from some of the other courses across the country before we get started. The golf course will be a treat to play and we are committed to making sure that our members are safe, and your golfing experience will still be great at LPCC.
In the meantime, we are also looking to show our commitment to the local community and are interested in supporting some front-line health workers at local senior homes and hospitals, with some meals that we can provide. This may be as simple as asking each member to donate a $15 lunch that we can provide and deliver to those that are in need. This would be done on a volunteer basis and will be donated on behalf of the members at LPCC.
Once again thank you for doing your part and supporting the club during this time. Our plans above can change very quickly based on what is mandated by the government and for this reason nothing is set in stone.
