WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE GOLF SHOP - EPISODE 21
Message from your Professional Staff at Lookout Point Country Club
Good Morning,
We have a jam packed newsletter for you this week! The Golf Shop has seemed busier over the past couple of weeks as we continue to get an amazing run of nice weather and we have had some equally HOT deals in the shop for you to check out.
A quick calendar note/reminder: Monday, September 7th is a holiday Monday (Labour Day). As such the tee sheet will be set up similar to our weekend tee sheets, with a cross-over lottery in the AM for our platinum members & guest access restricted to after 2:00 pm. The Driving Range will be closed at 4:00 pm on Monday, September 7th to facilitate the clean pick. It will remain closed until Tuesday, September 8th at 12:00 pm.
Before we get to all of this week’s news, we wanted to re-share some relevant parts of our General Manager, Dan Greenwood’s, most recent Operational Update:
Tee-Time Availability
As you are all aware, the tee-sheet has been extremely busy all season and we anticipate this will continue into the fall. The difference being there will be fewer tee-times to book. We have seen a spike in the amount of golf played this year by our membership. Our total round count from May 14 - August 25 is up 2400 rds, and this includes a decrease in guest play of 1732 rds compared to 2019.
We will continue to block specific times for the Ladies Day on Tuesdays, and Men's Day on Thursdays. The golf shop will be sending out some communication about the blocked times. There are approx. 4 weeks left in the Men's & Ladies leagues. Due to the limited times available because of the daylight Thursday tee-times will be reserved for the Men's Night participants and any available times after the Men's Night participants have been accommodated will then be made available to the membership at large.
Golf Course Conditions
The amount of play is apparent when looking at areas on the course that have seen a steady flow of traffic. The dry conditions have definitely thinned out some areas of the rough, and cart traffic patterns are much more noticeable. Please continue to adhere to our cart policy. No carts should be exiting around the greens and/or driven between bunkers where the grass is already under stress from being exposed to the heat and sun.
In these dry conditions, most divots are disintegrating...please make sure that you are using the sand & seed that is provided in the carts. Walkers...please remember to pick up your sand and seed bottles that will clip on to your power carts or your carry bags. With some cooler temperatures and hopefully some moisture these divots will quickly recover if replaced with our sand & seed mix.
Social bubbles/COVID Declarations
With September comes some extra awareness of the COVID 19 pandemic. Schools will be back in session and Parents and Grandparents will quickly lose control of their social bubbles. For this reason, every member must be reminded of their responsibilities as a Lookout Point Member.
Here is a new revised version of the Members declaration that you filled out at the beginning of the season. This declaration states that you have been adhering to all the social distancing protocols that are in place and are aware of the rules and regulations at the club that pertain to the clubhouse, the patio, the golf carts etc... The declaration is now live and will be collected by the golf shop, who will be sending a follow up email with this information also. Please click on this link to submit once again.
Stage 3 declarations are also available in hard copy in the Golf Shop or from our Starter’s. We will be making these available to members who have difficulty in completing the form online. Please note, that ALL members will be required to complete the Stage 3 declaration prior to visiting to the club. We are asking those members who have tee times booked this week to ensure that the declaration is completed no later than Thursday, September 3rd.
WINTER ACADEMY / WINTER SIMULATOR
The Professional Team is currently in the midst of planning our winter programming for the Academy and as part of this programming we are looking into the feasibility of using indoor simulators and some added technology to enhance our traditional programming. In addition, we recognize that more members will be around and not traveling this winter and this may open up the possibility for members to book and play rounds of golf on some indoor simulators. We are asking as many members as possible to take the following survey and give us some needed feedback.
Sincerely,
Your Lookout Point Professional Team
Golf Gives Back
Here at Lookout Point we are THRILLED to announce our partnership with the Golf Gives Back & Cobra Junior Golf Program. The Golf Gives Back program is designed to engage and encourage youth participation in the game of golf. The goal of the program is to make golf inexpensive, fun, and to also raise much needed funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada.
In addition, the Golf Gives Back program has provided us 5-sets of Cobra junior golf clubs to offer to Lookout Point Members & their families (at no cost) during their time at the course. The program is being funded by asking people in various communities across Ontario to donate between $10 and $200, and with their donation to be entered into a nationwide contest which includes a Grand Prize trip-for-2 to the 2021 Masters, shopping sprees from Cobra Puma, Golf & Golf Town and many additional prizes.
From Golf Gives Back:
While there is nothing familiar about these current circumstances, it is in times like these we are reminded of the energy and resourcefulness of our golfing community, and all those who are making a difference.
Like so many others during COVID-19, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada have been affected by the loss of funding due to their cancelled charity golf tournaments. This prompted us to create the Golf Gives Back contest which features once-in-a-lifetime experiences and prizes for the passionate golf fan.
