MESSAGE FROM THE PROFESSIONAL STAFF
Good Afternoon,
Like all of you, we were extremely disappointed to hear the announcement on Friday that golf courses across Ontario were to be closed. We feel very strongly that we were able to provide an environment for our membership to enjoy the mental health benefits and exercise associated with the game of golf, and we were able to do so in a safe manner. We are so very thankful to the staff who worked long hours this past week and on very short notice to provide the service levels that we have come to expect here at LPCC. We are hopeful that this closure will not last until May 20th, as is currently scheduled. There are a number of groups who are lobbying on behalf of golf courses and golfers to make an amendment similar to the one made recently for public playgrounds. To have your voice heard, you can feel free to add your name to a growing online petition (click on the button below). In addition, our partners at “We are Golf” have weighed in with their own letter on behalf of golfers everywhere to Doug Ford and the Provincial Government. A pdf of the letter is attached below.
In an email the Professional Staff received earlier today from Alexandra Taylor (Niagara’s Regional Coordinator for Golf Ontario) we’ve been asked the following:
“We have highlighted below some of the key messaging that we think is important in our discussions with the government right now. If you, or any of your members have direct contacts within government, or want to reach out to their MPP’s, here are the key points we encourage them to focus on so that we are all delivering similar and clear messaging:”
Golf proved in 2020, and in early 2021, that it is well-positioned to provide Ontarians with some much-needed outdoor exercise, mental stimulation and safe social time with family or friends. As the #1 participation sport in Ontario, in 2020 alone there were well over 20 Million rounds of golf played by over 1.8 Million golfers in Ontario with ZERO known cases of Covid transmission. The data is clear:
· Golf is safe.
· Golf is naturally aligned to physical distancing.
· Golf has a clear set of well established, very safe protocols.
· Golf has important health benefits - the studies are clear about golf – it is good for your heart, it relieves stress, and it can improve your mental health.
· And many recent articles from doctors across the province indicate that the science is clear … outdoor transmission is extremely rare.
In the meantime, we will be spending the next few days trying to get even more items on the online store for you to view! We will have an blast this week with a “Pro Shop Guide” showing you an overview of our 2021 brands and styles. We are open for curbside pickup (hours of operation listed below). Later in the week we will be bringing you videos and content about how you can keep your golf game in shape during the “stay at home” order. This will include some homemade practice tools and swing aids, fitness plans and ideas to keep your body in swinging form.
We look forward to welcoming you back to LPCC soon. In the meantime, please only visit the club for curbside pickup & take out. We want to be cautious of the number of cars that are seen in our parking lot, the course is unsupervised, which means we are unable to help in the event of accidents and/or injury while walking the property, our grounds department is starting to spray for crabgrass among other things (…quite the smell) and our parking lot access will vary based on weather, orders and delivery schedules.
See you soon.
On behalf of the Professional Staff,
Dan Roud
