Message From the Professional Staff,
Good Morning,
Another couple days, another couple inches of rain. Aldo and his team have been constantly walking the fine line between maintaining the golf course, doing all the additional things required at this time of the year to prep it for the winter months & also trying to keep it playable. As we know, our course is more resilient than most - (as seen by a few area courses already starting to close their doors for the season). That said, we will continue to make the right decisions in regards to carts and restrictions to ensure that the course is not damaged by unnecessary wear and tear. We know that when we make the call to cancel carts on a day to day basis, it is not a popular decision. But as a management team we feel strongly that it is the correct decision for the greater good of the course and the safety of the membership as a whole.
Yesterday, I sent a thank you note to all the professionals who came and participated in the PGA of Canada Head Professional National Championship this past week. I thanked them not only the way they treated our staff and membership, but mainly for the care they showed our golf course. Every ball mark was repaired, every divot replaced, and all players were understanding of us not permitting cart traffic during the week. We had daily changes to the tee times, lots of weather challenges and faced numerous obstacles that we had to find a way to overcome. In spite of all of these challenges, not only was the event a huge success but the positive feedback has been overwhelming. Countless volunteers stepped up to the call, whether it was donating their time or lending a push cart. Many of our back shop staff stayed extra hours or came in on day’s off to help caddy. I’d like to take some time and share some of the responses I’ve received from the participants:
Thanks to you and your staff and to your members for offering such a quality golf course late in the season...I think all appreciated the quality and condition of the course and overall service.

Thank you to you and your staff for a really nice wind up to the season!. The turf crew busted their collective humps to produce a course that played difficult but fair and was more than presentable even during the wet conditions leading up to this week. Well done. The volunteers were also a massive asset to the week, not too much fun for them to be stationary in cool conditions but so very helpful to the players. What a course for older guys! Tricky and fair, risk/reward everywhere if you are up to it! Looking forward to the next round up there

I too want to thank you for your hospitality and that of your staff and volunteers. They were all very courteous and polite and made our stay in Niagara very pleasant. I do wish to say I think in the future we need 6 practice rounds to get used to those greens of yours…lol. Very unique and special and fun to play despite the lack of local knowledge. I would love try those greens in the summer because that’s when the members say it is the most entertaining.
- Chris Callihoo
Thank you for hosting us this week. I know it was tough for all your staff and the turf crew to make the event happen with all the rain and everyone did an outstanding job. The course/club/members were all amazing and I really welcome by everyone.

It was great working with you. Lookout was already one of my favourite golf spots, but now with you and Rob running things, it has moved to one of the top spots for working with as well. I don’t recall in my 21 years receiving an email like this from a host club, so kudos to you for taking the time to reach out to those involved with the event.

Thank you very much for hosting us this week. The course was absolutely spectacular and you and your staff did an awesome job adapting to that amount of rainfall. And again, many thanks for finding JJ to caddy for me. Will definitely be back next time in Ontario. Cheers!

Just passing on my congratulations and Thank you to everyone at Lookout Point for a great week in hosting the PGA of Canada Head Professional Championship. Organizing an event of this magnitude at this time of year could not have been easy especially given the wet weather we received early in the week. The course played extremely well and everything from the practice facilities to the Pro Shop & volunteers to the F&B was top notch.

Thanks again for being a first class host for our National Championship. Your course , members, and staff are amazing and we, the players, were privileged to be on the receiving end of such wonderful treatment. A big thanks to Aldo and his staff for making the course such a joy to play , and getting it in such great shape after that crazy few days of weather. I look forward to the chance of playing there again sometime.
- Gord Burns
I just wanted to say that the staff and the golf course were incredible the entire week. For taking in this tournament for the first time, I was truly gracious for the opportunity to play such a fun yet challenging test, and just an overall large thanks to you and your team for the hospitality.

It is us that should be thanking you. What a tremendous course Lookout Point is. The length debate doesn’t need to be had with holes like number 3. I just loved the course. While as a 59 year old I really needed a cart, it was absolutely the correct decision not to allow them. Not only would they have done a lot of damage to the course it would’ve been dangerous too. Your staff was very helpful as were the volunteers, please pass on my thanks.

I just wanted to drop you a quick note thanking yourself and team for a great week out at Lookout Point. I have never visited the area before, it was great experience for me, the golf course was great even with all the moisture, you have a top notch facility.

Thanks for hosting us this year, considering the weather the course played fantastic. Lookout Point Country Club was a fantastic experience. Was so great to see how many members appreciated hosting the event, something that is not always the case. They were very proud to be members at the club and it really showed.

LOOKOUT POINT CLIMBS THE RANKINGS
www.top100golfcourses.com is an independent rankings website. They are not associated with any of the golf publications that rank golf courses (other than their own), but are instead made up of hundreds of reviewers who are passionate about golf courses and architecture and feature thousands of reviews from all around the world. Here’s a snapshot from their website:
There is nothing new about ranking golf courses. Numerous publications around the world produce their own lists using their panels. What is different about our approach is our process. Our extended network of correspondents, contributors and aficionados supply the data we weight most heavily. These trusted expert opinions, from golfers who have played an extensive number of golf courses in their country or territory, provide the data we weight most heavily, but we also consider our online data posted by many of our reviewers, some of whom go on to become our panelists/raters.
We keep a watchful eye on the rankings published by magazines, of course, but we don’t use their data or any other third party data in our ranking calculations. We take pride in our independence, which enables freedom from bias and commercial influence.
It’s impossible to remove subjectivity from the process of ranking golf courses. The definition of each element that should combine to make the perfect golf course has not been written or generally accepted. Dr Alister MacKenzie’s “13 General Principles of Architecture” and Charles Blair Macdonald’s seven “Essential Characteristics” for the ideal golf course go some way towards defining the key characteristics. In the absence of universally accepted criteria, we do our utmost to arrive at genuine, honest and informed golf course rankings. We’ll admit we get it wrong from time to time, so we’ll never claim that our rankings are definitive. No golf course ranking is perfect.
The criteria we ask our expert raters to follow focuses on the following headline areas: a) quality of design and test (40%), b) visual appeal and enjoyment (30%), c) presentation (30%). We’ve tested many different methods using continuous improvement processes, but we always remind golfers that the most realistic golf course rankings are in our own mind’s eye.
On October 27th, 2021, top100golfcourses released it’s updated rankings heading into 2022 (last done in 2019). The full article and rankings list can be found by clicking the button below. We are thrilled to announce that not only has Lookout Point moved up the list this year, but with the exception of a few new entires, we are the highest movers on the list, moving up 17 spots from our 2019 ranking.
Moving up seventeen places to #36, the course at Lookout Point Country Club in Fonthill, Ontario celebrates its centenary next year. One of only three Canadian layouts designed by Walter Travis, the course lies just ten miles west of the famous Niagara Falls at one of the most elevated positions on the Niagara Escarpment, hence its name. Architect Ian Andrew has left his mark here in the last few years, restoring a number of the greens.
