WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE GOLF SHOP - EPISODE 11
Message from your Professional Staff at Lookout Point Country Club
It’s been nearly 1 month that we have been open, and as our General Manager, Dan Greenwood alluded to in his operational update yesterday - we are seeing record # of rounds. At the end of May, we were able to open up additional tee times and provide even more access. Through the first 11 days of June, we are averaging an extra 65 rounds a day or 43% more play than over the same period in 2019. We have been able to do so while not sacrificing any of our protocols & guidelines set out at the beginning of our re-opening plan. As we are entering a hot & humid stretch of weather we are now beginning to see some of the effects of these extra rounds - particularly as it relates to the turnover of our cart fleet and some of the wear and tear on the golf course. In the operational update last night the following was shared:
Thank you to the Men's Night Committee who have generously contributed to the new cart dividers that will be installed tomorrow allowing 2 riders per cart. These dividers have been approved for use by the Ministry of Health and have been recommended by the NGCOA to help reduce not only the obvious rental expenses but also the wear and tear on the carts and their batteries as well as the golf course from the extra tire tracks throughout the rough and around the enter/exit posts. Once we have the cart dividers in place we will be insisting that there will be only 2 carts per group to ensure that all the members that need to ride will have access. Walking times will still be available and we also encourage those members that can walk to do so. The cart dividers will help bring back some level of normalcy when playing golf with a cart. However, the driver must always be the driver. Be mindful of the pace of play and please get in the habit of dropping the passenger at their ball 1st.
These dividers were installed today and this policy will go into effect tomorrow - Thursday, June 11th. It is very important that members DO NOT remove these partitions. With the potential re-opening of the patio on the horizon, we are expecting more visits from Health Officials who are monitoring how businesses are adhering to the newest set of Covid-19 protocols. An exception can be made for couples or individuals from the same household or for individuals who happen to be the only rider in their group. In these cases, we ask that you allow a staff member of Lookout Point to assist you in securing the partition safely.
We are pleased to announce that the Short Game Area beside the practice range will OPEN on Thursday, June 11th with the following restrictions:
The Short Game Area will ONLY be available for members who have booked a practice time in advance through the Driving Range Booking Process. Members who are using the practice area to warm up prior to their tee time will continue to use the chipping green by the 9th green.
Balls will be provided to you by the Range Attendant in a small basket that will be sanitized before you receive it.
Once you have finished your basket please return it to the Range Attendant - DO NOT pick up or retrieve the golf balls you have hit.
There will be no rake in the practice bunker - please smooth out the area(s) you have used to the best of your ability.
The Range Attendant can limit the number of players allowed in the Short Game Area at any given time.
The Range Attendant will be responsible for collecting Golf Balls and raking the practice bunker on a consistent basis.
Sincerely,
Your Lookout Point Professional Team

DRIVING RANGE CLOSURE (MAINTENANCE)
Please note on Monday, June 22nd the Driving Range will be closed for the day to facilitate additional maintenance on the tee decks, greens, and short game area. In addition to the weekly Monday maintenance, we will be setting aside one day per month scheduled for complete closure.
When practicing on the range please ensure that you are practicing properly. We have seen far too many “concentrated” divot patterns to start the season. It should be obvious that both “scattered” & “concentrated” patterns do not heal as efficiently as a “linear” pattern and in many cases cause damage that can not be repaired over the course of a season.
LOOK WHAT OUR MEMBERS ARE DOING…..PART 2
A couple of week’s ago we highlighted Lookout Point member Matt Bosela’s online golf blog “Now on the Tee”. (Click HERE to check it out). This week we focus on some amazing ON-COURSE achievements.
Monday, June 1st
The first Monday of the month was a lucky one for 2 of Lookout Point’s finest gentlemen. Bert Cadotte & Galen Shaw both had ACES on the 11th hole!!! There have only been a select few times in recent memory that we have recorded multiple Hole-In-Ones on the same day…..but we cannot recall two Hole-In-Ones on the same day & the same hole!!! Nice shooting guys! Bert’s luck continued as he dunked his 3rd shot for eagle on the par 5 7th.
Wednesday, June 3rd
Not to be outdone by the guys - just two days later, Junior member Payton Bennett recorded a rare Albatross on the par 5 12th hole. Payton sent in the attached picture and shot by shot description: “Playing the White Tees, I hit a great drive 267 yards and had exactly 180 left in. I hit a 7 iron because we were downwind, it landed short and kept rolling and eventually dropped. I was in such shock that I didn’t even celebrate.”
Thursday, June 4th
A week before the official kick-off of the men’s league (a little too convenient if you ask me….) Darby Berkhout recorded the second ACE of his career on the Par 3 8th hole. Great shooting (& timing) Darby!
Early June
This story might have needed to be seen to be believed. Reno Tofano stepped up to the 2nd tee earlier this season and hit his tee shot a bit right. How far-right exactly? Well, it careened off the mounding to the right of the 2nd hole and landed promptly in the 17th cup. We’ll not technically a hole in one….it still deserved some recognition. As you may have guessed, Reno’s luck continued and later in the round he birdied the 17th in regulation. We may need to rename that pin location the “reno pin”.
CLUB FITTING WEEKEND!!!
Friday, June 19th, Saturday, June 20th & Sunday, June 21st we will be hosting Taylormade, Callaway & Titleist for fitting days.
During these unprecedented times, all of our Manufacturers have taken advanced measures to ensure your health and safety, as well as that of their staff and their teams. Those measures include:

Fitting reps are equipped with a sanitization kit that includes disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, disinfectant soap, towels, and sterilized brushes
Golf equipment will be cleaned and sterilized following each usage
Rest assured that your health and safety is the No. 1 priority for both Lookout Point and our brand partners. We will ask that you respect our existing protocols by not attending if you have a cough or fever (or have had in the last 14 days), have been exposed to someone who has had COVID-19 in the last 14 days or might otherwise expose the fitting staff or other members to unnecessary risk.
Taylormade Fitting Day - Friday, June 19th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Callaway Fitting Day - Saturday, June 20th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Score Posting & Golf Canada Handicaps
Posting of Scores
Golf Ontario 2020/ COVID-19
Golf Scores are currently not able to be posted at the Golf Shop. Members are asked to post scores from home PC or by downloading the app from Golf Canada for their smartphones. Visit the following site to post
World Handicap System
With the World Handicap system now in place- it is strongly recommended that scores are posted hole by hole once your round is completed. Score reduction on any given hole will be automatically done through the system if you post hole by hole. Scores that were played last week or earlier can still be entered. Please post your score to the correct date. A reminder, that should we be able to eventually get some of our member events up and running (including our planned Club Championships in early August) that ALL members wishing to play must have a posting compliance of 80% or higher for regular play and 100% for all League and Member Event play.
